ELEC certifies Daggett for matching funds

The state Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC)today certified the campaign of independent gubernatorial candidate Chris Daggett as eligible to receive state matching funds, according to campaign press secretary Tom Johnson.

"We expected this but we're happy to be moving on," Johnson told PolitickerNJ.com.

Daggettearlier thismonth announced that he had raised the $340,000 to qualify for state dollars, a 2-1 match under the provisions of ELEC, which catapults Daggett to $1 million for his campaign.

"We won't receiveany moneyuntil we name a lieutenant governor candidate," added Johnson, who would not comment on either Daggett's choice or the process.

GOP gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie yesterday selected Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno as his runningmate. Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine and Daggett have until Monday to makes their own selections.

"It’s not a political environment that’s particularly warm for incumbents, but it looks like Booker has little to be worried about as the campaign season draws to a close."
