GOVERNOR CORZINE’S STATEMENT ON THE INDICTMENT OF ASSEMBLYMAN ANTHONY CHIAPPONE

GOVERNOR CORZINE’S STATEMENT ON THE INDICTMENT OF ASSEMBLYMAN ANTHONY CHIAPPONE TRENTON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today issued the following statement on the New Jersey Attorney General’s indictment of Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone:“Assemblyman Chiappone’s indictment – the 201st corruption case filed by the New Jersey Attorney General’s office over the past four years – portrayed conduct that is simply intolerable and he should step aside immediately. As I have repeatedly said, it would be impossible for any individual serving under a cloud of uncertainty to govern effectively. I applaud Attorney General Milgram for her hard work and continued efforts as part of my administration’s zero tolerance policy towards corruption at every level of government. ###

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
