Unveiling new CD 7 ad, Chivukula calls Lance ‘far right’

Challenging U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-7), Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula (D-17) today released his first television ad.

A 30-second spot, “Problem Solver,” airs throughout the Central Jersey district, and tells Chivukula’s story, presenting him as an example of the American Dream.

It also outlines broadly his ideas on access to affordable education, reducing burdens on small businesses, and protecting Medicare for our seniors.

The ad is positive.

In his release accompanying the ad, Chivukula tried to depict Lance as hampered by the Tea Party Republican Congress.

“I have been fortunate to live the American Dream and I believe we need leaders who will stand up to ensure future generations have the same opportunities,” said Chivukula. “Instead of working to create jobs and ensure future economic prosperity, far-right Congressman Lance and his friends in the Tea Party Congress have focused on turning Medicare into a voucher system and taking steps to make abortion illegal.”

The Lance campaign responded.

“This negative attack is a feeble attempt by Upendra Chivukula to distract voters from Chivukula’s own dismal voting record in Trenton,” said Todd Mitchell, Lance’s chief of staff. “As a member of the Trenton Democratic leadership Assemblyman Chivukula voted lock-step for the McGreevey-Corzine failed fiscal policies that led to higher taxes, irresponsible spending, unchecked borrowing and the doubling of our state debt.  And now Upendra Chivukula wants to represent the 7th District in Congress following years of voting against their interests and despite the fact that he lives outside the congressional district?  Voters will not be fooled.”
