Christie & Bruce: ‘We’re friends’

KEANSBERG – Gov. Chris Christie got some great news from his rock idol Bruce Springsteen over the weekend.

“He told me it’s official, we’re friends,” Christie said during a press briefing here on hurricane recovery efforts.

Christie joined Springsteen for an NBC telethon to raise money for residents suffering following Hurricane Sandy.

Until recently, Springsteen has largely given a cold shoulder to Christie, who’s been trying to get him to perform a concert for particular events. The fissure is largely because of the polar opposite political views they have.

Christie said he also talked to Springsteen on the phone after he finished speaking with President Obama. Springsteen was flying with Obama aboard Air Force One.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
