Gilmore on storm evacuees: ‘hopefully they stopped to vote’

The cars bolted out of Brick Township, looking like some modern SUV version of “The Grapes of Wrath.”

Sandwiched between Sandy and a Nor-Easter expected to give another injection of havoc to the environs around here tomorrow, Brick Mayor Steve Acropolis this morning declared an evacuation in the Republican burgh.

“He declared an evacuation but we kept the polls open,” said Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore. “Hopefully most of them stopped on their way out of town – and voted.”

For all the torment around these elections, Gilmore said he weathered it with nary a glitch today.

“The biggest problems were the ones we have in every election,” he said.

"He evolves like any other politician who knows how to flip a foe into a friend when necessary. He’ll do whatever it takes to survive."
