Must read from Politico on the Romney/Christie V.P. dance

Politico has a must read story up this morning saying Gov. Chris Christie was actually Mitt Romney’s first choice for Vice President.

The article hints at some bad blood between Christie and the Romney camp and ends with an ominous threat from a Romney insider.

According to the post, Romney was conflicted and abruptly changed his first choice from Christie to eventual nominee U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.  The story seems to contradict portions of a New York Post story that ran on day one of the GOP National Convention that said Christie turned down the job because he wasn’t sure Romney could win.

The Politico piece hints that the Post story was payback from Christie for how he was treated in the vetting process.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
