BATEMAN/CIATTARELLI/SIMON JOIN THREE “SOMERVILLES” TO HELP HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS

The 16th District delegation – Sen. Christopher “Kip” Bateman and Assembly members Jack Ciattarelli and Donna Simon – today joined with Somerville, New Jersey, and its sister cities, Summerville, South Carolina and Somerville Massachusetts to collect food and supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims at the Jersey Shore. “As we approach the holidays, many families along the Jersey Shore are still struggling to recover from Hurricane Sandy,” said Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman, R-Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer and Middlesex. “In the spirit of the season, please support our friends and neighbors with donations of needed goods. You can help bring some cheer to families that are in desperate need.” The delegation delivered supplies this morning at Somerville Borough Hall, which is coordinating collections with Summerville, South Carolina and Somerville, Massachusetts. Delivery to shore area hurricane victims is being coordinated with Governor Christie’s office. “It is very important, especially during the holiday season, that we remember our friends at the Jersey Shore who have endured devastating losses,” Assemblyman Jack M. Ciattarelli, R-Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer and Middlesex, said. “I commend Somerville Mayor Brian Gallagher and his counterparts in South Carolina and Massachusetts for working together on this benevolent cause and I encourage those who are able to help to do so as soon as possible.” Somerville, New Jersey, is collecting goods at Borough Hall, 25 West End Avenue and Engine Company #1, 170 East Main Street, until Dec. 14. More information is provided on the borough’s web site: http://www.somervillenj.org/controls/NewsFeed.aspx?FeedID=215. “The holidays are a time of counting our blessings and giving back,” said Assemblywoman Donna Simon, R-Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer and Middlesex, said. “Even with the generosity of New Jerseyans and people throughout the country, Hurricane Sandy distribution centers are running low on supplies. We’re Jersey Strong and will continue to rally as a community, pulling together to do everything we can to help our neighbors.” Hurricane Sandy victims still need canned and nonperishable food, household products, cleaning supplies, toiletry products, baby items, hygiene items and pet food. ####
