SEA BRIGHT – Gov. Chris Christie said today that residents’ hearts and prayers are with the people of Connecticut who are suffering in the wake of a mass shooting in the Newtown School District today.
“Ten days before Christmas is unthinkable,” Christie said about the Connecticut school massacre that claimed more than 25 lives.
However, he was not able to provide any additional details.
“I’m not comfortable confirming anything,” he said.
He said he’s been briefed by the Attorney General’s Office but said any information about the shooting must come from Conn. Gov. Danel Malloy and law enforcement officials.
“Bad people do bad things,” Christie said, adding that he doesn’t know if there is anything government could do to prevent disturbed people from committing “awful acts.”
As a society, Christie said, “we need to be realistic about life and that these kinds of things will happen even if they are absolutely incomprehensible.” Christie said they are “so intent on killing people there’s alsmost nothing you could do to prevent it.”
