NEWARK – Regarding Senate Democrats’ vote Thursday to suspend the rules regarding the nomination of Fredric Knapp as the Morris County prosecutor, Gov. Chris Christie dismissed it as “an action without consequence.”
He said Knapp will continue to remain prosecutor, and called on the Senate Democrats to stop making a “mockery” of – and playing politics with – the nomination process.
He described the Democrats’ legislative maneuvering as “a new low.”
On Thursday, Senate Democrats pulled Knapp’s name from the committee stage where it has been for some time, and gave it an immediate vote on the Senate floor. Democrats defeated the nomination.
Republicans decried the tactics as a temper tantrum by the majority party, but Democrats said the governor started this by bypassing the Constitution.
