GUSCIORA RESPONDS TO BATEMAN

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) issued this response to Senator Bateman’s statement on the Assemblyman’s Marriage Equality Ballot Initiative: “While I appreciate Senator Bateman’s support of the LGBT community and our issues, I believe his call for a Constitutional Referendum is over-reaching. The state’s recognition of marriage is one of statutory construction. The law merely needs amending to reflect that such recognition should be done on an equitable basis, making a constitutional process unnecessary. Nonetheless, after his voting against marriage equality in the last round, I am pleased that the Senator is now in support of the effort.”

"I don't think what he's doing tonight, the method by which he's doing it helps to build a trustful relationship."
