Senate passes Internet gaming bill

The Senate approved bill S1565/A2578, which authorizes Internet wagering at Atlantic City casinos to enable New Jersey residents to place wagers on casino games.

The vote was 33-3.

Sen. Ray Lesniak (D-20) of Elizabeth, the bill’s prime sponsor, said the bill will help replenish casino revenue funds to fund valuable education and disabilities programs, as well as help save jobs.

Sen. Mike Doherty said he hoped racetracks would also be included, like other states have done. He described the situation as “frustrating.”

"Let’s be clear, this was not a ‘humanitarian’ act by the Castro regime. It was a swap of convicted spies for an innocent American."
—U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ)
