Pols from everywhere attended this afternoon’s Building Trades holiday party in Belleville.
But only three were the subject of intense conversation.
Two of them were there and spoke, and one wasn’t, and didn’t.
Having already announced his plans to run for re-election and keen on Building Trades support, Gov. Chris Christie was in the room.
So was Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3), who is said to be posied to take on Christie if Newark Mayor Cory Booker does not run for governor.
Booker was not present.
Only Christie and ironworker Sweeney did mic time.
“It was a lovefest,” groaned an insider present at the event.
Also in attendance was state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-18), who is preparing for her own run next year, but she did not address the festive crowd.
A source at the party told PolitickerNJ.com that Christie is enjoying the affections of the Building Trades union.
“It’s clear Christie has these folks in his corner,” said the source. “Sweeney running would be the one scenario where they wouldn’t support the governor.”
