Barnes: ‘It’s time to support Buono’

Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Peter Barnes this afternoon urged Democrats to rally around the canddiacy of state Sen. Barbara Buono.

“As the first woman to chair the Senate Budget Committee and serve as Majority Leader, Barbara Buono has the skill and experience we need to turn this state around,” Barnes said in a statement. “She’ll replace bluster with leadership, and YouTube shouting matches with real results for New Jersey families. It’s time for New Jersey Democrats to come together and support Barbara Buono for governor.”

Barnes was the first county chairman to declare his support for Buono, his home county senator.

He issued his statement today in the wake of the news, first reported by PolitickerNJ.com, that state Sen. (and former Acting Governor) Dick Codey will not run for governor this year.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
