Christie may take Rafano off the field of battle in battleground Middlesex

Gov. Chris Christie’s intent to nominate Middlesex County Freeholder Director Christopher D. Rafano to a Superior Court judgeship Monday could take a solid Democratic Party brand name off the ballot in a battleground county.

Middlesex also happens to be Democratic gubernatorial challenger state Sen. Barbara Buono’s (D-18) back yard.

Rafano is up for re-election this year in the county Christie beat Jon Corzine in by three points. If he’s in judge’s robes, he won’t be running, depriving Dems of a sure winner, a party source told PolitickerNJ.com.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
