Cryan backs Buono for governor at Women’s Political Caucus event

Assemblyman Joe Cryan (D-20) tonight formally backed state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-18) for governor.

Cryan was addressing the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey in New Brunswick in receipt of that organization’s “Good Guy” Award.

When Cryan announced his endorsement of Buono, the lone declared Democratic elected official in the race, he received a standing ovation.

Cryan’s endorsement of Buono comes on the same day state Sen. Dick Codey (D-27) went to Washington, D.C. to sniff out his own gubernatorial donor prospects, and a week after Cryan’s running mate state Sen. Ray Lesniak (D-20) urged Codey to get in the race.

A former state party chairman and former Assembly majority leader, Cryan fell out of favor with Democratic Party power in 2011 at the same time as Buono.

"It’s not a political environment that’s particularly warm for incumbents, but it looks like Booker has little to be worried about as the campaign season draws to a close."
