Dem state chairman poised to endorse Buono

As backing for state Sen. Barbara Buono continues to flow in, Democratic State Committee Chairman John Wisniewski is prepared to issue his own endorsement of the Democratic gubernatorial candidate and call upon the remaining county chair people to follow suit.

Wisniewski has organized at least two calls among the state chairs in recent weeks and has listened as potential candidates were discussed and dissected.  Through it all, Wisniewski, who at one time considered his own challenge to Gov. Chris Christie, has urged the chairs to coalesce behind one candidate.

Now, Buono is the Democrats’ lone choice and absent a surprise challenge from an as yet unknown candidate will carry the Democrats’ standard.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
