Hornik not ready to endorse Buono

Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik won’t be among those Monmouth Democrats endorsing state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-18) for governor this week.

“I have no preference for Buono at this point,” said the popular local leader who this year worked to put a cop in every district school in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook, Conn. massacre.

“I have not spoken to Codey nor to Sweeney about their respective decision,” the mayor added. “I have no plans to enter the governor’s race.”

Leading his county’s support for Buono is Monmouth Democratic Committee Chairman Vin Gopal, who last year defeated Hornik’s candidate for county party chairman.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
