Lawmakers remember legacy of King

TRENTON – Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, issued a statement in praise of the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.

“Today, as we celebrate the second inauguration of President Barack Obama, we also reflect on the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.  It was King’s dream and his life’s work that made the elections of 2008 and 2012 possible.

“We recognize that electing and re-electing our nation’s first African American president is not the fulfillment of King’s dream, but is another step in our long march toward equality for all.  On this day, we all must recommit ourselves to embodying the principles King held so dear.

“The best way to honor King’s memory isn’t through word, but through deed.  We must continue to work to ensure that every person – black or white, woman or man, gay or straight – is treated with respect and dignity throughout our United States.”

"Historically, the media has had two caricatures of Republicans. We are either stupid or evil."
