Prospects line up for shot at Barnes’s LD 18 seat

The Middlesex County Democratic Organization’s support for Assemblyman Peter Barnes (D-18) for Barbara Buono’s Senate seat has created movement below among those eyeing Barnes’s Assembly seat.

Here are some names of interested prospective candidates for the seat currently occupied by Barnes: Highland Park Board of Education Member Adam Sherman, Edison Councilman Rob Karabinchak, Edison Councilman Bob Diehl, East Brunswick Councilwoman Nancy Pinkin, and Highland Park Councilwoman Gayle Brill Mittler.

A source close to the processes of the party organization described Karabinchak as the favorite.

Buono’s decision to give up her LD 18 Senate seat to run for governor created the movement.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
