Report: Christie rejects minimum wage

TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie has rejected the Legislature’s minimum wage hike proposal, according to a published report.

The Associated Press is reporting the governor favors a $1 phased-in raise.

The Legislature’s proposal has been sitting on the governor’s desk since lawmakers passed the $1.25 hike in recent weeks. It was thought unlikely that the governor, who had been critical of the bill’s annual cost of living increase, would support the proposal.

Christie’s office did not immediately respond to comment to confirm the report.

"I don't think what he's doing tonight, the method by which he's doing it helps to build a trustful relationship."
