Assembly Republican Whip Scott T. Rumana, R-Passaic, Bergen, Essex and Morris, issued the following statement in response to Senate President Sweeney saying that Governor Christie prayed for a hurricane to strike in New Jersey: “Governor Christie has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and has proven a willingness to put public service above political interests while governing New Jersey through one of the worst natural disasters in state history. “Some Trenton politicians are so desperate for the Governor to fail that they will say anything. Senator Sweeney’s immediate apology proves the absurdity of his own statement and reveals that despite talk of bipartisanship – politics as usual goes on in Trenton as we work to recover and rebuild our state. “Our focus should be on helping residents recover from Sandy and working across the aisle to keep pressure on Congress to approve funding for our recovery. We cannot be sidetracked by the kind of juvenile and disgusting politics that occurred today.” ####
"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
