Legislation sponsored by Senator Jennifer Beck (R- Monmouth) and Senate President Steve Sweeney (D- Gloucester/Cumberland/Salem) to prevent abuse of the state’s farmland assessment law has been reported favorably by the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
“Just because there’s a way to cheat doesn’t make it right. We need to close the loopholes. This bill represents important change, ” said Sweeney.
The legislation, S- 589, was approved by the full Senate last year. A 2010 series published by the Asbury Park Press enumerated many of the abuses of and deficiencies in the current law.
