Booker team moves to secure donations in wake of Lautenberg announcement

The director of Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s People’s Super PAC wasted no time jumping on donors and potential donors to Booker’s 2014 Senate campaign.

“Big news out of New Jersey in the race for U.S. Senate,” PAC Director Steve Phillips wrote yesterday in an email blast obtained by PolitickerNJ.com.

“Incumbent Senator Frank Lautenberg has just announced that he will NOT seek re-election, and the door is now open for Newark Mayor Cory Booker to win the race for that seat,” he added. “PAC+ was the first national organization to support Cory’s campaign, and we now need to help him continue the momentum.  Here’s what we can do to help Cory now…”

Phillips urges supporters to contribute to Booker, spread the email and “like” Booker on Facebook.”

“The New Jersey Old Guard was slapping back at Cory, and today’s news is a BIG development,” Phillips wrote. “Other hurdles will rise quickly, so we need to help build on this momentum now.”

"It’s not a political environment that’s particularly warm for incumbents, but it looks like Booker has little to be worried about as the campaign season draws to a close."
