Cino jumps into LD 39 GOP Assembly fray

Another candidate just entered the LD 39 fray.

Perennial candidate Michael Cino today sent a letter to the Bergen County Republican Organization (BCRO) declaring his interest in screening.

The competing candidates are now Old Tappan Republican Municipal Committee Chairman Bob Auth, former Freeholder Rob Hermansen, former Bergen County Freeholder Clerk Karen Mastriano, and Cino. Old Tappan mayor Victor Polce is also a candidate.

Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-39) is running for re-election and has submitted a letter of intent.

Co-founder of Cino Oil, Cino ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-5) in 2006 and 2012. He has also run unsuccessfully against state Sen. Gerald Cardinale (R-39).

No one’s heard from indicted Assemblyman Robert Schroeder (R-39), whose seat is in question.

Auth has the support of Cardinale and BCRO Chairman Bob Yudin.

On Feb. 14, the candidates will screen at NERO. On Feb. 28, the NERO delegates will vote on an LD 39 ticket.

The GOP county convention will take place in early March.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
