CWA set to back Buono

The Communication Workers of America statewide union is set to endorse state Sen. Barbara Buono in her bid for governor, a source with knowledge of the pending endorsement told PolitickerNJ.

Leaders of the union’s locals will gather tomorrow for an 11 a.m. session to screen Buono before giving her the nod.  A meeting and press availability is set to follow.

The CWA represents the most significant endorsement Buono has received to date as the group represents some 70,000 members across the state from both the public and private sectors, including more than 40,000 state workers, 15,000 county and municipal workers, and thousands of workers in the telecommunications and direct care industries.

Buono is the presumptive Democratic gubernatorial nominee, but will not officially hold the title of nominee until after the June primary election.
