Dems mobilizing for PR assault on GOP resistance to gun control measures

Senior Democrats are mobilizing this afternoon for an all-out assault on Republicans in the wake of today’s hearing on several gun control measures.

Democratic leaders have planned a call this afternoon that will include party pollsters to plan their public relations strategy in an attempt to exploit GOP opposition to what Democrats view as common sense gun control measures.

Among the specifics to be discussed was the no votes posted by the GOP committee members on a measure that would prohibit anyone on the terrorism watch list from owning a handgun.

“This is a gold mine,” said a source familiar with the plans for the call.

"He’s obviously working very, very hard at it. I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
