Runyan slams Obama’s State of the Union speech

U.S. Rep. Jon Runyan (R-3) tonight was not impressed with President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech.

“Tonight, President Barack Obama had a great opportunity to unify Americans around a plan to address the biggest fiscal challenges facing the United States of America,” said Runyan in a statement. “Unfortunately, the President continued to focus on increasing taxes and spending while ignoring the nation’s debt and deficit crisis.  Let us not forget that just last month the House and Senate passed a compromise piece of legislation, which the President strongly advocated for publically, to avert the fiscal cliff by increasing revenue.  Now is the time to focus on our debt and deficit and get the federal government’s spending problem under control, which is the only way to grow our struggling economy and get America back to work.”
