SPACE SWORN IN AS NEWEST MEMBER OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY Assemblyman Parker Space was sworn in today in Trenton as the newest member of the General Assembly. Space will represent the 24th Legislative District (Sussex, Warren and Morris counties) as he fills the seat of former Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, who is now the Sussex County Surrogate. Space joins Sen. Steve Oroho and Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose as the district’s other Republican representatives in the State House. “It is an honor to serve the people of the 24th Legislative District,” said Space. “I am committed to serving the best interests of my constituents and I look forward to working on the important issues facing our state such as job creation, improving our economy and providing tax relief.” Until last week, Space served on the Sussex County Freeholder Board as its Director. He joined in the Freeholder Board in 2010 – in the middle of economic hard times – and worked on the budget committee his whole time as a Freeholder. He inherited a $7 million hole in the county budget, which was cut by reducing spending. The workforce was cut from 800 to 600 employees – and the budget balanced. After Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee, and then Hurricane Sandy damaged 150 roads and bridges in Sussex County, Parker Space and the Freeholder Board managed a program of repair and reconstruction through the frugal and efficient use of resources so that only 15 projects remain to be completed. Space previously served on the Wantage Township Committee from 2004 to 2009. During his tenure on the committee, Space served as the municipality’s mayor three times. He has been an active member of the Wantage Fire Department for over 21 years and served as its chief in 2001 and 2002. He also serves on the board of the state’s only rural electric co-op. Parker Space’s family has farmed Sussex County for generations. He and his wife, Jill, operate the Space Farms Zoo and Museum, an institution in Northwest New Jersey familiar with generations of school children and families. ##### http://www.NJAssemblyRepublicans.com NJ Assembly Republicans on Facebook NJ Assembly Republicans on Twitter
