4 p.m. has come and gone and there are four Democrats and two Republicans

TRENTON – PolitickerNJ.com just took one last glance at the book of hopeful candidates filing petition signatures toward a U.S. Senate run.

“Nothing’s changed since you were here last,” said the duty chief for the state Division of Elections. “Those are the names and it’s too late for anyone to file now.”

The deadline was 4 p.m.

The names stand.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12), U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6), and Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) await certification of at least 1,000 valid petition signatures on the Democratic side.

Former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan and Aleita Eck have filed on the Republican side.

The primary is scheduled for August 13th.

"It’s not a political environment that’s particularly warm for incumbents, but it looks like Booker has little to be worried about as the campaign season draws to a close."
