DiVincenzo in with Booker at kickoff

NEWARK – Joe DiVincenzo, the powerful county executive from Essex County, stood amng reporters this morning in the half hour lead up to Mayor Cory Booker’s campaign kickoff for U.S. Senate.

“I’m with Cory,” DiVincenzo told PolitickerNJ.com. “I’ve been with him, and I’m going to continue to be with him.”

DiVincenzo announced his support for Booker last year, following the mayor’s announced intent to explore a U.S. Senate run.

The executive’s Saturday morning presence occured even as people continued to gather signatures toward a Senate run by Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34), DiVncenzo’s ally in legislative leadership.

“I’m supporting Cory Booker,” he reiterated.

I mean he’s traveling all over the country as chairman of the [Republican Governors Association] and I think at this point he has as good a chance or better than anybody else. His name is household word all across the country, and I think he would make a great president."
