Wiz backs Prieto for speaker

Assembly Deputy Speaker John S. Wisniewski (D–18) today issued his formal statement of support for Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (D-32) for speaker of the General Assembly.

“Today, following discussions with legislative colleagues and Democratic leadership across our state, I am endorsing Assemblyman Vincent Prieto as Assembly Speaker for the 2014 New Jersey General Assembly,” said the former Democratic State Party chairman and sitting chairman of the powerful Assembly Transportation Committee.

“Assemblyman Prieto’s experience as Chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee and the two-term tradition that has guided the selection of previous Speakers have both weighed in my decision to support Assemblyman Prieto as our next Assembly Speaker,” he added. “Following Speaker Oliver’s historic and accomplished two-term tenure as our leader, I believe it is Assemblyman Prieto who is best positioned to succeed her and unite our Democratic Assembly members around the values that represent the values of our state and its people. I am proud to offer him my support and confident that he will provide the leadership New Jersey needs to move our state forward.”

"I don't think what he's doing tonight, the method by which he's doing it helps to build a trustful relationship."
