LD2 Count: Down 74 to Amodeo, Mazzeo says it’s not over

Northfield Mayor Vincent Mazzeo this morning told PolitickerNJ.com that a win is doable in his challenge of Assemblyman John Amodeo (R-2) as the Republican incumbent’s allies are quietly in high-five mode.

Amodeo leads Mazzeo by 74 votes with counting to resume later this afternoon.

With Northfield and Atlantic City provisional ballot counting already done, Amodeo’s allies say they have weathered the worst of it and are now confident of victory.

But Mazzeo says don’t count him out.

“It looks pretty good,” the Northfield mayor said. “I’m down 74 right now. There are 77 left to count in Pleasantville, 75 in Hamilton and 161 in the rest of the district. I would have to win about 60 percent of what remains. It’s doable.”

Thirty-two provisional ballots from Atlantic City are already headed for court whichever way this goes.

Mazzeo suspects we will know around 7 p.m. tonight.

He said he remains upbeat.

"The governor still has to come to bat."
