HIGHTSTOWN, N.J., June 1, 2014 – Murray Sabrin’s campaign for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate has received a last-minute endorsement from the good-government, reform-minded Hudson County Republican Club.
“On the issues that matter, Murray Sabrin is right on the money,” wrote club president Roberto Cruz in a statement emailed to the Sabrin campaign. “As a professor of finance, he understands the real damage that high taxes and overspending have done to our nation. In Washington, Murray will firmly stand for less government and more freedom. We are proud to stand with him.”
“I’m proud to receive the Hudson County Republican Club’s endorsement,” Sabrin said. “I know the people in the club as citizen activists who work all day, every day to promote and secure the values of free-enterprise, limited government and civil liberties that made our country great, yet that are being eroded and debased by liberals like Cory Booker and President Obama.”
“I’m also mindful that the Hudson County Club is a strong force for clean politics and honest government in North Jersey,” he said. “More and more, we’re seeing organizations like this crop up to fight for the rights of citizens and taxpayers to have more say in their government and in local politics.”
The endorsement of Sabrin represents a push back by the club against the county GOP establishment’s preference for another candidate in the race.
“The Hudson County Republican Club was founded in the summer of 2011, to offer voters a genuine alternative to machine politics-as-usual,” Cruz’s statement said. “For too long, Hudson County’s ‘official’ GOP organizations have been infiltrated and neutered from within. We’ve even seen GOP money diverted to the re-election fund of a Democrat mayor.”
A key element in the club’s choice of Sabrin was his decades-long record and reputation as a plain-spoken truth teller and advocate for open, honest, transparent and limited government.
“In the race for U.S. Senate, we are thrilled to have found a candidate who is truly unbought and unbossed: Murray Sabrin,” Cruz wrote. “To his credit, you won’t see Murray’s name on Hudson County’s washed-up, tired-out party line. Instead, you’ll find him running under the ‘Conservative Republican’ banner (Column H on Tuesday’s ballot). “
“The reform wave that’s sweeping over New Jersey politics is long overdue,” Sabrin said. “I firmly endorse and identify with it in the same way Hudson County reformers do the same for me. Together, we can offer the people a choice for good public policy and good government.
