Press Release

Aaronson and McMorrow for Monmouth County Freeholder

Release Date: Oct 13 2005

REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED FREEHOLDER BOARD CONTINUES TO LEAVE TAXPAYERS IN DARKThe Board of Chosen Freeholders met on Tuesday instead of Thursday, but did anyone notice? At Tuesday’s meeting the Freeholders spent over $12 million, but how many taxpayers had a say?

Out of respect for those who observe Yom Kippur, the Freeholders moved this week’s meeting from Thursday to Tuesday. However the Freeholders failed to adequately notify the public of the change of date.

“A simple message on the front page of the website would have allowed everyone to know that we respect all members of our community by changing the schedule, Barbara McMorrow, Democratic candidate for Freeholder, said.

Few people are able to attend meetings on a regular basis due to the inconvenient meeting times. “We agree that the meeting time should have been changed, however the Freeholder Board should at least try to notify people of every meeting, especially when there is a change in date, time or location, Rebecca Aaronson, Democratic candidate for Freeholder, said.

The Republican controlled Freeholder Board holds meetings at 2 and 4 o’clock in the afternoon. By holding meetings at times inconvenient to the majority of Monmouth County residents, the current Freeholders ensure that taxpayers don’t know exactly how much of their money is being misspent and mismanaged.

Voters know that the current Freeholder Board has left them in the dark when it comes to how their tax dollars are spent.

Democratic Freeholder candidates Barbara McMorrow and Rebecca Aaronson have real solutions to these problems.

Instead of having meetings at inconvenient times when no one can attend, Barbara and Rebecca will work to move the meetings to 7pm when most residents of the county can attend. “How will the public know what goes on if no one can even attend the meetings? Most people in the county are at work at those times, or stuck in traffic. McMorrow said.

In addition to making the meetings at a more reasonable time for county residents, Barbara and Rebecca want to tape the meetings and air them on local cable stations.

Barbara and Rebecca want to work with the local community college to integrate taping the meetings into the curriculum.

“This makes the meetings convenient for the people who want to be informed and can’t attend. It also gives the students experience. When it comes time to find employment, we will have given the students invaluable experience McMorrow said.

“By finding ways to utilize existing county services, we can better inform county residents without spending additional tax dollars, Aaronson said.

By ensure that county residents have access to their government, Barbara and Rebecca will work to restore the tax payers’ trust in government. Barbara and Rebecca are committed to making Monmouth County government accessible, accountable and affordable.
