State Sen. John Adler has raised $610,000 for his campaign for Jim Saxton’s seat in Congress and has $580,000 cash on hand, according to a statement released by his campaign. Adler is seeking to become the first Democrat to win this seat since 1882. Medford Deputy Mayor Christopher Myers and Ocean County Freeholder John Kelly are seeking the GOP nomination; neither has released fundraising figures through the end of last year.

Not Accurate
Adler carried over a bunch of money from the federal account he established years ago. He didn't raise $610k.
Again
Why let the truth get in the way of a sensational story, right?
Adler is a Nocross foot stool
Adler is going to need more money than that to explain why he tried to ban Columbus Day from being taught in New Jersey schools.
His presence at a Mosque openning in Cherry Hill the day before Terrorists got arrested at Fort Dix doesn't help him either.

Panic Setting in For Republicans
In less than two weeks, Adler has both posted highly-impressive fundraising numbers and gotten a highly-coveted endorsement from the Regional Fishing Alliance. Meanwhile, the Republicans, short on endorsements (except perhaps Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition), have to look forward to an expensive June primary between two mediocre candidates who will use some of the finite resources available against each other. There's good reason why Bob Novak is calling this race "leans Democratic." I would be panicked, too, if I were a Bush Republican in NJ-03.
Luckily
Luckily you don't live in the 3rd. First of all, get it right. If you are going to tout the endorsement, it is the Recreational Fishing Alliance. And "highly coveted"? Are you serious? You obviously know nothing about the district or the RFA. The RFA will provide some funding to Adler but the rank and file are already upset with the leadership and James Donofrio's decision to endorse a liberal from Camden County. Moreover, the group has been highly critical of many of the environmental groups which you believe will back Adler. I am not so sure having talked with some members. A primary may be avoided, but even if it is not, there will be plenty of money going into the Myers campaign. The defense industrial base which supports upwards of 70,000 families in the District, not to mention the veterans in the District who are still angry about the Adler bill to end teaching our children the meaning behind Veterans Day and Memorial Day, will be soldily behind the Myers campaign.
And if Novak had ever been to the District or even talked to someone from the istrict, then I'd be worried about his opinion.
Leave him alone
He thought Rich Dennison's Sierra Club endorsement was huge pick up too. He definitely knows a winning campaign when he sees one. Color me panicked. Costly primary? Let's see if Jack Kelly even makes it until the weather breaks. Also, let's see if anyone gives a damn what the RFA thinks 10 months from now.
when you don't have issues to run on...
Indeed, "theoc," do you even live in the state, let alone the district? What gives you any authority on this matter, besides your myopic defense of Republican corruption? As someone who has had Sen. Adler as my state senator for years, I can attest to his strengths as a senator and his ability to lead in Washington. From his bill to get pensions revoked for corrupt public officials to his shepherding of major environmental bills through the senate, Adler has proven he is candidate who would be ideal for district-03 voters. And, yes, the Recreational [my sic] Fishing Alliance endorsement is a big deal and helps shore up support in the eastern part of the district. Adler's work on the pot reliefs bill, I think, helped ensure this early endorsement. And stop being intellectually dishonest about Adler not wanting enforced teaching of holidays mandated at the state level as being somehow "anti-military." That's as equally sad as it is pathetic to accuse him of being. Much of the military has turned against the President and his failed policies in Iraq, so I wouldn't count the military-industrial complex against Adler.
To say that Kelly and Myers are behind in the fundraising race at this point would probably be an understatement. From any objective standard, Adler has positioned himself well in this race already.
ASharplessKnife
Dennison did as well as could be for someone who went up against a GOP media darling and only got $5k from the state Democrats. Rich and I were both realistic about his chances, though he should be commended for his efforts. And since we're being honest, I find it telling that the only "victories" for South Jersey Republicans these days are ones where they hold onto previously-Republican seats. No hope for gaining congressional seats, no hope for gaining the governorship, and no hope for winning U.S. senate seats -- tis the plight of the modern New Jersey Republican.
Your whining about the RFA endorsement speaks volumes, ASharperJames, as does your defense of Boss Paulsen and BurlCo GOP corruption. Let Myers and Kelly beat themselves up in the primary, and the bruised winner gets one of the most talented members of the state legislature for his efforts; after the BurlCo and OceanCo GOP go mano-a-mano, the resources remaining from the NRCC are few and far between, so don't count on the national GOP to bail your candidate out. I'm waiting for you and theoc to whine some more about Adler being from Camden County; ask Asselta and McCullough how that strategy went.
You are anti-military
I did not say in my last post that Adler was anti-military, but if the shoe fits. And read the bill I referenced. The Adler bill would end the mandate that requires the teaching of the significance of Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Columbus Day as well as others. That is how we teach our children about our history and heritage as a Nation? Rendering the sacrifices of generations past as insignificant is not the answer. The veteran groups in the District and in Washington, DC are rallying around ABA - Anyone But Adler. They will have a larger impact than say the RFA. It is confirmed. You are clueless about the District. The RFA endorsement means nothing. The rank and file who I know very well will work against their own organization's endorsement. So much for coveted. And your comment that "much" of the military has turned on the President's policies is ridiculous. Once again, you make things up to make your argument. Talk to them for a change - and not a friend of a friend of a penpal. The majority of the men and women in uniform believe in what they are doing in Iraq. They see the surge working and are changing things there. So much so, Rep. Murtha came out and said the surge was working. Talk about dishonest. You have made it a common occurrence in every post you paste on here. Finally to compare someone who has had a federal campaign open since 2003 and someone who has not even declared as a candidate is intellectual dishonest. But it doesn't surprise me.
The only whining
The only whining that has been done on this site has come from Michael Martin. I won't go into the hysterics that you have subjected us to. But your whining, name calling and general five year old little girl complaining are commonplace on this site. And I love how you are the authority on the NRCC and what they will spend on this race. I am not worried. They will pony up in the end. It will be in the seven figure range. You seem to not understand that Members of Congress are free to give their party's political arms unlimited amounts from the re-election coffers. Who is sitting on 1.5 million?
ALousyJoke
Beyond your photos, please stay away from attempts to be funny. Where exactly does your knowledge of the RFA come from? Is that a tackle box strapped around your shoulder? Where exacty do Asselta and McCullough's districts intersect with the 3rd Congressional (I'm assuming that would be there relevance in this debate)? Sorry if I'm whining. By the way, did you know that NJ03 is a previously held Republican seat? At least you admit we are good at holding on to those. Best of luck running another Camden County machine candidate in BurlCo, they've had great success in the past!
P.S.- Sharpless isn't even a word.
Question for GOPanimal
If Adler did not raise $610K, how did he get $580K cash on hand?
Money was transfered
The serious answer to your question is that money was transfered from his Senatorial account - roughly 200-250k which would account for the high number. 580k is a good chuck of change to have on hand. I am not disputing that. But as a previous poster mentioned - he had a campaign account open for several years anticipating a Lautenberg retirement.
To the OC - All politics is local
"The RFA endorsement means nothing." Not so. Recreational fishing represents a huge economic impact to the NJ economy. Adler realizes it and he's worked to secure the endorsement of a major recreational fishing group. What you do no mention is that not all fishing groups in NJ endorse (NJ Anglers for example). So that makes this get even more effective. Also, last time I checked a map, the NJ shore does not extend into Camden County (unless the Bush global warming plan is farther along than I thought). So Adler is doing a great job of reaching out to the rest of the third congressional district.
Saxton $$$
don't forget about Saxton's million plus warchest!
Martin is a tool!
DC Dem
You are correct in the all politics is local. And that is what I meant in my previous posts. While the RFA and James Donofrio has endorsed Adler, the rank and file members are not pleased with the endorsement and are working against their own organization to back ABA. A majority of RFA members are also sportsmen and women and are affiliated with other organizations such as the NRA. I have met with several in my area whom I have known for years who are bewildered at the decision. And it is those individuals who are involved in the economic impact you speak of who are the angry ones. The bait shop owners who have had their taxes and fees raised by John Adler and the Democrat controlled NJ Legislature. The property owners who have been involved in the generational trek down the Jersey shore who have seen their property taxes skyrocket out of control by Adler and friends. The boat owners who have to pay a higher state sales tax than other states when registering in NJ. They are pissed and see Adler as the problem. In the end, it means nothing when your rank and file arte working against you.
Agreed
I have worked with Jim Donofrio and the RFA for many years in different capacities and have heard the same things described in the previous post. The dues paying members are upset that Jim and Bob Healey have decided to endorse Sen. Adler. I have spoken with a few in NJ and more groups associated with them in DC. I expected this endorsement having spoken with Jim in recent weeks/months, but I was very surprised at the timing. To me, the timing was way too early and will not be productive for the RFA. But Jim thinks the dollars he can raise will make a difference. I will beg to differ. While Jim is a good guy, he overextends himself at times and promises more than he can deliver. Personal knowledge here.
Adler is clear choice
Rather than speak for RFA members, I wanted to note that Recreational Fishing Alliance endorsed with their best interests in mind when they gave their early consent to Sen. Adler. After all, it was Adler who was the primary sponsor of S255, which authorized a special license plate for RFA, and it was Adler who brought S2635, the Pot Reliefs Act, to a vote in the senate. When combined with Adler's stellar record on the environment, from his work on the Pinelands Act, which directly affects NJ-03, to his co-sponsorship of the Clean Cars Act, Adler's pro-recreational stance ultimately made the choice easy for the RFA, who said in their press release that Adler is "deeply committed to the well-being of the recreational sector and that he will take the concerns of the recreational fishing community to Washington."
Over 600k in the bank. Check. Early endorsements from key players. Check. Panicked Republicans resorting to sad, pathetic ad hominem attacks. Check.
Best thing that could ever happen
This race will be the best thing that ever happened. As Norcross spends most of his money on this losing battle he will have little left to "infect" other districts. The 3rd district wants nothing to do with Camden County.
Ad hominem attacks
Once again Marty, you are the standard bearer. Too many to quote here. You have even admitted it on this board on more than one occasion. So forgive me - or not - if I don't care about your opinion. Just wonder other than reading and regurgitating press releases, polls from Blue Jersey and what is whispered into your ear by Rick Perr, if you have actually discussed this or any issue with the folks at RFA. You speak of the compatibility of the RFA and the environment, yet you remain silent on the fact that James Donofiro is no friend of the environmental groups in Ocean County or NJ. He has contempt for them. But I guess it is ok because this is such a great important endorsement. That was sarcasm by the way. Need to point out the obvious to you.
Here We Go Again!!!!
Once again, Martin stirs the pot with his sauce of total entertainment value, nonsence and wishes.
Let me set some facts for the record:
FACT: Adler is not known or really cared about in Burlington or Ocean Counties.
FACT: Myers has the backing, power and experience behind him of working for the largest So Jersey Firm that likes to keep working. Translation: Adler has come out against military action and defense. He is totally against the use of force and would love to see us as little sheep being led to the slaughter. Those 70,000 plus families working for Lockheed will not stand for that and already ready for battle.
FACT: Marty, your little friend little Richey LOST! It dosent MATTER HOW MUCH HE SPENT, HE LOST BY 6,000 VOTES! You can call Diane a GOP Darling but this darling beat his butt IN A DISTRICT THAT IS PRIMARILY DEMOCRATIC! What happened? Little Richey as well as any other dem sacrifical lambs do not have the experience or clout to take Diane down. I guess your precious democrats didnt buy your brand of snake oil either.
FACT: You swore that the GOP in the 8th would lose BIG TIME and your pithy little sayings and rants obvioulsy fell flat too. Haines bested Bodine by over 10,000 votes, Riley and Fifis got spanked as well too! My goodness, Ms Riley could not even WIN HER HOME town !
FACT: your hatred of GOP only makes them stronger and your hatred of anyone not agreeing with you is only a bigger diservice to yourself.
At the end of the day, you will keep ranting and spinning, yet you have not been able to back up any of your predictions or any of your opinions one iota; Adler will get a spanking like Susan Levin did back a few years ago. Remember, all the money Norcross put into the campaigns of the dems in Burlco failed! Adler's constant lets have tea and dialogue theory with terrorists and his lack of support for our military is already his undoing.
More Cowbell Please !!
Lies by MartinOne. Check.
My ad hominem attacks are not pathetic, they totally rule. What is pathetic is that a school teacher does not know that sharpless isn't a word. You must be a brutal scrabble opponent.
Key players? Last time I checked RFA was just one group, and to say they are key is an exaggeration, considering this endorsement comes 10 months before Election Day. I suppose the other key player you are referring to is King George III, he definitely is key in all this. The voters of NJ03 are well aware of this fact and will remember it on Election Day.
The bossism charge
Martin, With all due respect you can't really be actually using the charge of Myers being connected to Layton/Paulsen and completely forget to mention the Norcross connection with Adler. There is no "holier then thou" attitude here.
As far as any endorsement, I don't live in this district so I won't guess at the weight of the one endorsement Adler has, but it's rather strange any legitimate organization would endorse him considering they do not even know who his opponent will be yet.
You do make a good point though when stating that the Republican nominee will probably be a little damaged by what could be a divisive primary. This does give Adler an advantage since he won't have a primary opponent.
