Amodeo & Polistina To Campaign With Assemblyman Jon Bramnick In Margate
(Atlantic County, NJ) Republican Assemblyman Jon M. Bramnick of Union County, a leader in the effort to reform government and save taxpayers’ money, will campaign with the Second District Republican Assembly candidates on Sunday in Margate.
Bramnick, the Republican Party whip in the Assembly, will appear with Assembly candidates John Amodeo and Vince Polistina at the Atlantic City Marathon along the runner’s route in Margate at 10 a.m.
The candidates will meet and talk with spectators at the marathon and proceed to the Margate Library for a news conference with Bramnick at 11:15 a.m.
Polistina and Amodeo both support Bramnick’s effort to eliminate state-funded pension benefits for part-time government employees, including legislators.
“Virtually no private sector employer offers pension benefits to part-time workers, much less at public expense,” Polistina said. “The entire notion of pension benefits, along with publicly-funded health care benefits, is absurd.”
Polistina pointed to a recent Gannett news organization public opinion poll which revealed that 71 per cent of New Jerseyans felt that legislators placed their own good and personal self-interest above the interests of taxpayers, up from 47 per cent a year ago.
“With the generous pension and health care benefits available to part-time government employees, it is no surprise that nearly three-quarters of the public is cynical about the motives of their representatives,” he said.
Amodeo said the elimination of these kinds of taxpayer-funded perks for part-time employees “would constitute a major step toward restoring some level of public confidence in government.”
“By our actions, we can demonstrate clearly and convincingly that the taxpayer comes first,” Amodeo said.
