Where's the coverage on the Pallone Pay to Play Story?!
So I'm waiting for the New York Times Editorial criticizing Congressman Pallone for playing Mr. Ethics against Christie, while actively engaging in clear examples of pay-to-play and directly making sure lobbyists from UMDNJ attend his fundraisers after he secured money from them via earmarks.
http://www.northjersey.com/news/E-mails_paint_a_picture_of_pay-to-play.html
Much like federal monitoring contracts, it's perfectly legal, and even worse it's taxpayer money being used. The monitoring contract Ashcroft got is funded by the corrupt Zimmer Holdings company.
Congressman Frelinghuysen was named in the same story and isn't right either for the earmark practices, but he isn't the one playing Mr. Ethics here.
Ashcroft Singing?
I remember the Singing Senators, so i get the connection here. If you also meant that he will be singing to Congress, then this is a pretty OK comic.
It's still a little off, because Pallone and Pascrell want him to sing for Congress, and Christie doesn't. If Ashcroft admitted under oath that he got the contract "with a little help from my friends" that would not be good for Christie.
So I give you a B for characterization, an A for illustration and a C- for implementation.
the comics
Why are people so darn critical of Rob's drawings? They're always clever and well done. Let's end the cynicism!
Rob
They are actually rarely clever, if well illustrated. He rarely offers new insight, we all knew the sentiment in this cartoon before he illustrated it. Yes Ashcroft got a cushy deal from Christie and Pallone and Pascrell are irritated-where is the insight? Tornoe gets flack because he is a pretty poor cartoonist.
I got an idea...
I say the very critical SJBlue draws a cartoon himself, then we can see who's really a poor cartoonist! WOO!
I have already addressed that
And I am not the only one who thinks that Tornoe is a bad cartoonist. Here is the point. Can I draw better than Rob Tornoe? No. Do I know what a political cartoon should be? Yes. Can I come up with a slew of better ideas for cartoons? Yes-so could most of the people who post here. Do I make my living commenting on politics? No. Does Rob Tornoe make a living attempting to point out ills in the political system? Yes. Am I a political cartoonist? No. Does Tornoe have anything original or insightful in his cartoons? Rarely. I have said this before I am not a football player but I know Peyton Manning is a good quarterback. Tornoe is a bland insightless cartoonist for the most part, just because I cannot draw as good has he can does not mean my remarks on his work are less valid.
