ASSELTA SHOULD HIRE TRACKER TO KEEP TRACK OF HIS CAMPAIGN

Release Date: Aug 13 2007

ASSELTA SHOULD HIRE TRACKER TO KEEP TRACK OF HIS CAMPAIGN

(CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ)—In a continuing pattern of inaccuracy, distortion, and half- truths Senator Nick Asselta’s professional tracker misinformed the Gannett Vineland Daily Journal of his recent activities.

In a recent statement, Asselta’s hired tracker who has been tracking Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew taking video, audio, and still photographs of him stated that he has only done so three times. The following are events that Van Drew has had video, audio, and photographs taken of him:

  • Veterans Event in Atlantic County—Photos
  • Memorial for Justice at the Cumberland County SPCA-- Photos
  • Puerto Rican Celebration Parade—Video and Audio
  • Cape May Point Town Meeting—Video and Audio
  • Gypsy Moth Meeting in Dennis Township—Video and Audio
  • After the meeting having private conversations with constituents – Video and Audio
  • Coastal Evacuation Task Force Hearing in Atlantic County—Video and Audio

While he may say he never follows Van Drew to his home it is extremely coincidental that Van Drew personally encountered the tracker a few blocks from his residence on foot in the rain on August 9th at approximately 5:15pm.

“The Asselta campaign should at least have the courage to admit that they are using all of this video, audio, and still photography for a negative campaign. To pretend otherwise is ludicrous. If you are concerned with the accuracy of my statements then why would you need one hour of video and audio of my running mates and me walking and waving in a parade? And how do still photos help track the accuracy of my statements? Just tell the truth—have some intellectual honesty-- I could accept that,” said Van Drew.

In the story, John Weingart of the Eagleton Institute of Politics stated that candidates who are being tracked are more likely to hold back and not speak from the heart.

“I will always speak from the heart and with passion about the issues of South Jersey and our district, regardless of whether my every word, motion, and gesture are recorded or not. My only request is that they seek permission from constituents before taping or using private conversations. I bargained for this when I put my name on the ballot but my constituents do not deserve to be treated this way.
