WATSON COLEMAN: POTENTIAL TOLL HIKES MAKE ASSET MONETIZATION PROPOSAL A NON-STARTER IN ASSEMBLY

(TRENTON) -- Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer) issued the following statement on legislation Senator Raymond J. Lesniak unveiled today to authorize a potential sale or leasing of state toll roads and the PNC Arts Center:

"While asset monetization has enormous potential for freeing up capital, this bill will be a certain non-starter in the General Assembly unless it contains stronger protections against prospective runaway toll increases.

"Senator Lesniak deserves credit for taking on this enormously complex issue, but he is putting the cart before the horse by advancing this legislation when the administration has yet to complete its own examination of this issue.

"New Jersey shouldn't be in a race to sell and lease state assets. Let's obey the speed limits and make sure any legislation on this issue is properly tuned up to ensure that it fires on all cylinders for taxpayers and motorists alike."
