Baroni asked Bush to save SCHIP last month; Teamsters head criticized Singh for attacks

The 14th district State Senate candidates are girding for battle at Steinert High School tonight, and once again GOP Assemblyman Bill Baroni is heading into a Fair and Clean Elections debate with the Georg W. Bush factor fairly smothered.

In a press release today, Democrat Seema Singh demanded to know why Baroni failed to denounce the President’s veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)

But Baroni wrote to Bush before the veto seeking support for the legislation. A copy of his letter had been forwarded to PoliticsNJ.com, and the Baroni campaign today provided proof of delivery that his letter to Bush had been received by the White House on September 26.

"As a Republican state legislator, I am in the 'trenches' and I see what a great job FamilyCare does every day in our state to provide coverage to these kids," Baroni wrote Bush. "I also see too many children who still lack access to basic health coverage. Not renewing this program would be irresponsible and would put over one hundred thousand children in this state at risk."

Earlier today, the President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Joint Council 73, endorsed Baroni and criticized Singh for her attacks on the GOP Senate candidate.

"We are shocked by recent attacks by Bill’s opponent calling him a ‘Bush Republican,'" said Teamsters President Cliff Nolan. "We know Bill Baroni--nothing could be further from the truth, and we call on his opponent to stop these senseless attacks.”

This is why Republicans are demoralized

It's not because New Jersey is a "blue" state, it's because of phony liberals who masquerade as "Republicans" and support Socialized Medicine.

Baroni's lucky to have an opponent who can't get out of her own way. He may not always be so fortunate.

Coming from Rick Shaftan

Baroni should take that as a compliment...

This is a prime example of why when Baroni says he's independent and cites opposition from his own party, you know he's not lying.

Again Baroni dodged the

Again Baroni dodged the question -- he didn't sign the letter with 2/3rds of the legislature. Is that becuase he still hasn't figured out how to work with people -- talking about bi-partisanship is great. But if Bill
had figured it out by now he would have more than 2 bills into law in 4 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Baroni called one of his buddies at the Bush White House to give him a get out of jail free note. All this proves is that Baroni is even closer to George Bush. Would an average voter get a
response from the White House in two weeks?? Doubtful. And we all know that if Baroni trully sent a letter on the 26th he would have told the press. He notifies PoliticsNJ (and probably Max Pizarro) everytime he wakes up in the morning and everytime he goes to bed.

If he's actually independent, he should be acting like one - not appeasing both sides on the sly and then avoiding all questions.
