Senator Jennifer Beck (R-12) issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s presentation of his 2009 state budget proposal to the Legislature:
“The Governor is starting to cut some of the reckless 20% spending increases of his first two years in office for one reason – the people of this state rebelled against his insane toll increase and borrowing gimmick and forced him to pare back government.
“Had the Governor followed the lead of Republicans, the media and regular folks over the past two years, he could have avoided making a bad situation worse.
“But the sad truth remains, even with all his talk of painful cuts, his budget remains bloated with fat that he is failing to cut. From a corrupt $190 million grant program to political appointees getting health benefits for doing nothing more than attending monthly meetings, this budget is still a pig that is ripe for roasting.”
