Several candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination for Monmouth County Freeholder, where the GOP’s 3-2 majority is at stake this November. The Democratic candidates at a convention this Saturday include Ocean Township Board of Education member (and former Neptune Mayor) Michael Beson, ’07 Assembly candidate Amy Mallet, and Hazlet police officer and school board member Glen Mason.
Democrats picked up single Freeholder seats in 2006 and 2007.
Republican incumbent William Barham is not seeking re-election. Several GOP contenders are seeking party support to run with incumbent Lillian Burry.

In a Presidential election year where Monmouth is likely to go Republican at the top of the ticket, it will be difficult for Beson and Mallet, but I think that's probably about as good as the Dems could hope for with candidates, since Bradley Beach Mayor Scheuler doesn't want to run again, it appears.

Having worked a bit with Mike with the Edwards campaign in N.J., I can attest to his intellect and campaign know-how; I wish him the very best in this freeholder run.
