Bodine compares Burlington County Republicans to John Kerry

In what might be a first of this campaign season, a Democratic candidate has used John Kerry to disparage his opponents.

Eighth district Democratic state Senate candidate Fran Bodine, a former Republican, responded to a television commercial aired by Burlington County Republicans that said he voted in favor of budgets that increased the state debt by $8 billion.

Although Bodine did not dispute the votes, he pointed out that the commercial referred to budgets from between 1994 and 2002 – when Bodine was a Republican, and under the administrations of Governors Christie Whitman and Donald DiFrancesco.

"Burlington County's Republicans have committed a flip-flop that would make even John Kerry proud," said Bodine. "It shows just how desperate the party has become when it attempts to white-wash its own past. This latest attempt at revisionist history is so transparent as to be merely laughable."

But Burlington County GOP Executive Director Chris Russell said that the commercial merely demonstrated their candidate’s commitment to bipartisan reform in Trenton.

“Phil Haines is determined to go to the State Senate to Change Trenton, and if that means calling out both parties on their lack of spending discipline in the past, that’s exactly what he’s going to do,” said Russell. “The fact that career politician Fran Bodine is so utterly oblivious as to defend Trenton’s spending habits over the last decade is all the proof you need that he is woefully out-of-touch and its time for him to go.”

Bodine is a puppet!!!

Bodine collects a check for doing public relations from an engineering firm that needs taxpayer money to get work. Bodine is part of the problem in the state of NJ makes money doing too little work off the taxpayers.

Stick a fork in Bodine he is done

Does he dispute collecting a pension at the same time he is collecting his legislative salary? How about getting jobs for family members...does he dispute that? Time to find a hobby Fran, you are going to have a lot of time on your hands.

Not sure I get the complaint

The Republicans dumped him because he abused his position and increased spending by billions of dollars.

What is the question? That was ok? We want more of the same? He'll increase spending more if given the chance?

What a desperate jerk. Great job Kennedy - really picked a winner!

Bodine is not an ideal

Bodine is not an ideal Democrat, but he trumps Haines on his independence from the BurlCo party machine and his independent thinking overall, as evidenced by this quotation. There's good reason why many Republicans and Independents are supporting Bodine in this election, and that is because of his strong record on fiscal constraint (as opposed to Haines, who saw through multiple shady deals as county clerk and freeholder) and environmental preservation.

oh brother

Fran's independence from the Burlco GOP began shortly after the Burlco GOP dropped him like a hot nine iron.

Fran's strong record on fiscal constraint is based on his votes as a Republican, against everything that Martin thinks the government should do.

No Dennison Yet

Bodine is close, maybe the next press release he'll pull a Dennison!

LOL @ Martin

Bodine was part of the machine you rail against but was dumped when Mike Warner was trying to inject some new blood and picked Haines. His ethical issues were just one of the reasons he was shown the door. But, you can honestly have him. He can finally start collecting his public pension without getting a state salary as well.

No Endoresements

For Franny!

Isnt that telling?? Even when the papers picked one or both of his mates, poor Franny is without any endorsements!

He is toast, I wonder what he will do next? Run as an independent??
