Burlco GOP denies report of Warner resignation

Burlington County Republicans are denying a published report that Col. Michael Warner will resign as GOP County Chairman and that his predecessor, Glenn Paulsen, will return to the post.  Some Democratic insiders have been suggesting that Warner could face a challenge after losing control of Evesham in last week's municipal elections, but the Chairman has been on vacation this week and no changes -- if any -- have been finalized.

Politics as usual in BurlCo

A change in leadership has been needed in the Burlington County GOP for quite some time, though I question whether this change is nothing more than the politics-as-usual, anti-public interests process that has marked the BurlCo GOP for years. In particular, Paulsen, the proposed new chairman, has, according to politicsnj, been part of the Sen. Martha Bark probe that "expanded to the Delaware River Port Authority, then-Burlington County Republican Chairman Glenn Paulsen and Carol Beske of ACT Engineers. Paulsen is Diane Allen's chief benefactor, supporting her U.S Senate campaign and privately backing her campaign loans with the name and credit of the Burlington County Republican Party."

According to this article, from an admittedly partisan site, Paulsen has refused to release documents concerning his firm’s role in the no-show job hirings for Martha Bark. http://www.burlcodems.com/corruptiontax.asp

Meanwhile, The Burlington County Taxpayers Association says that Burlington GOP Chairman Glenn Paulsen delivered "$2 billion in questionable no-bid bond deals benefiting family, close friends, and political donors."

For those of us who want clean, transparent government, it does not seem that Chairman Paulsen is the clean break required from the past for the BurlCo GOP machine, particularly in its wide-range ring of corruption, scandals, and sketchy contracts.

Keep Warner

The Burlington Republicans would be crazy to dump Warner. He is one of the best chairs in the state. You can't lay one local race at his feet.

Burl Co Taxpayers Assoc is Perr

Hey Martin,

The Tax Payers association was started by Pick Perr as a NON-PARTISAN Organization.  He pledged that he was "for the people" and "politics were not his motive".  That was right before he became the Dem chair.  That sounds like integrity to me.

HOW WOULD IT WORK, LEGALLY?

Title 19 doesn't seem to say how a chairman is replaced mid season, although it has been done often before...

Oh goody

Oh goody! Marty thinks we should change leadership. Now if that isn't a ringing endorsement from the burning bush, I don't know what is. Seriously, who cares what this back bencher thinks? The story was planted by Rick Perr and his cronies. It was well known the Chairman was out of town with his family and would not be able to respond. And the BCTA is not non-partisan as HighTaxes points out. To cite them and use them as anything other than a biased political organization is ridiculous.

The oc: Apologist for Republican Corruption

Imagine if I or any other Democrat made excuses for pay-to-play contracts, Norcross’ dealings, and Wayne Bryant’s multiple jobs. Well, that’s just what right-wing apologists such as our anonymous friend “The oc” has continually done for the corrupt Burlington County Republican Machine. The probe of Martha Bark’s no-show jobs and the nepotism of the Rudders in the entire process? It’s nothing to fret about, according to “the oc.” The BurlCo GOP rehiring a possibly-compromised previous head whose dealings with the Lenape school district and in other matters have led to his work being under investigation? That’s all water under the bridge, according to our anonymous apologist for corruption. Bob Stears’ cheating of taxpayers millions of dollars with the BurlCo Bridge Commission? It really was nothing at all, the oc would say.

It is incredibly hypocritical to make excuses for widespread corruption in one’s political party while claiming to be for clean, transparent government. But with the BurlCo GOP and its hired guns, it’s politics-as-usual when it comes to corrupt officials, shady contracts, and no-show jobs.

As usual

As usual, Marty makes up comments to support his ultra-liberal views. Quote one time where I mentioned Bob Stears. You can't because I didn't. Yet you claim that "Bob Stears’ cheating of taxpayers millions of dollars with the BurlCo Bridge Commission? It really was nothing at all, the oc would say." You are nothing but a liar in a terrible 1980's sweater. I also never defended Martha Bark. Once again, you lie about that. I did and will defend the Rudders. You continually claim that they are involved in a nefarious plot, yet have repeatedly failed to provide one ounce of proof. If you had any - which you don't - you should have brought it to the attention of the US Attorney's office. The rumor of Warner being ousted and Paulson returning was started by Rick Perr and his friends, yet you continue to spread it around as fact. Why can't you people tell the truth? Speculation from a wanna-be political insider who sits at his computer thinking he is changing the world with his ridiculous letters to the editor, means nothing. Moreover, who can take someone who quotes Timbuk3 seriously?   Remember - those who can't do, teach.

Bad logic, more apologies

Ah, more apologist rhetoric and empty posturing from the official BurlCo GOP hack. Needless to say, our anonymous friend “the oc” is indeed a natural-born politician, as he claims, since he pirouettes around issues more than a ballet dancer. Say unequivocally that you don’t support the corrupt practices of the BurlCo Republican Party, including Stears’ multimillion dollar rip-off of area taxpayers, and that you wouldn’t support the re-election of Martha “no-show” Bark, and perhaps a modicum of respect would be given your way.

Needless to say, it is hard to take you seriously, since you defend corrupt practices and nepotism (Rudders) in the BurlCo GOP, and you state that WMDs were found in Iraq and that all is well with the treatment of veterans in this country (Walter Reed, anyone?). As an avid Bush supporter and two-time voter for the corrupt, inept Bush-Cheney ticket, your judgment is suspect, to say the least. And that doesn’t even count your apologies and excuses for the corrupt Republican machine in BurlCo.

I’m glad that you’ve read my letters and appreciate their content. I’d like to reciprocate the favor and read some of your work, but you’re too afraid to post your photo (I don’t begrudge your obesity), your name or your personal contact information – and this despite moments of bravado and delusory self-grandeur.
How about that Evesham election, eh, anonymous friend?

Glenn Norcross, er, Paulsen: Power Broker: Exhibit I

Glenn Paulsen, one of South Jersey's most powerful Republican leaders, and his law firm were paid more than $390,000 for helping the Lenape Regional High School District win state approval to build a fourth school. During the same time period, 1998 through 2001, Paulsen and his firm, Capehart Scatchard, also received more than $600,000 for his work as counsel to state Senate President Donald DiFrancesco, who later became acting governor. Paulsen, who is chairman of the Burlington County Republican Party, and Capehart attorney Anthony Drollas helped persuade several state agencies to allow Lenape to build Seneca High School in the tightly regulated Pinelands.

(As I said, his reelection shows that backroom deals, shady contracts, nepotism, pay-to-play practices, and illegal dealings are par-for-the-course with the BurlCo GOP.)

The Courier-Post examined the Seneca files at four agencies that reviewed the high school project - the Pinelands Commission and the state departments of Education, Environmental Protection and Community Affairs. The agencies' files contained no correspondence, memos or other documents prepared by Paulsen, Drollas or other attorneys for Capehart, which has offices in Mount Laurel and Trenton. The files also contained no copies of correspondence addressed to Paulsen or other Capehart attorneys from government officials.
