CALIGUIRE WILL END EMPLOYEE
CAMPAIGN FUNDING KICKBACKS
Taxpayers Paying For McNerney’s Campaigns
Ridgewood -- Bergen County residents don’t realize it, but their tax dollars are paying for the political campaigns of County Executive Dennis McNerney, said Republican County Executive Candidate Todd Caliguire.
Caliguire said that McNerney’s campaign team routinely accepts tens of thousands of dollars from county employees. In return, McNerney has doled out millions in wage and salary increases to county employees.
Caliguire, a former Bergen County Freeholder, said if elected in November he will ban county employees from donating to the campaigns of elected county officials – or engaging in county partisan political campaign activity, much the way federal employees are banned from participating in elections under the Hatch Act.
“It’s an unhealthy and unethical environment for employees to be pressured to give money to the people like McNerney who have the power to set salaries and wages and hire and fire the employees, said Caliguire
“It’s bad for the employees and it’s bad for the taxpayers, he added. “The county executive can afford to be generous with employees knowing a share of the taxpayers’ money he is spending will be coming back to him in the form of campaign donations, said Caliguire.
In 2005 McNerney gave employees an $8.4 million raise – 7 percent – followed by a $1.5 million increase in 2006. Salaries now account for $135.7 million of the county’s $400 million budget.

Good intentions from Caliguire...
But, I would like to know if Caliguire ever introduced a similar idea when he was an elected Freeholder and the Republicans controlled the County?

That's how the dems have been doing business in this cesspool of a state for decades, buying votesand using power brokers. Unions, schools, cops, state employees will all vote democrat since that is where their bread is being so generously buttered at the expense of the private sector.
NJ has become such a neo communist state that you will never see another republican again. It's all over!! NJ is doomed with it's lavish spending on benefits and salaries for the public workers. If you work in the private sector, sell your house to a public employee and move to a decent state like DE or PA. Have a nice day!
