CLUELESS REPUBLICANS FILE POLITICALLY MOTIVATED COMPLAINTS
Democrats May File Own Ethics Complaint Against Assembly Republican Staff
For Campaign Attack on Taxpayer Time
(Trenton) – The Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee (DACC) today announced it is considering filing an ethics complaint against the Assembly Republican Office for misusing governmental resources in support of their party's campaign activities.
A spokesman for DACC said since the goals of a Republican hail-Mary press release attacking Democratic candidates were purely political, the release should have been produced and released by staff the GOP's campaign apparatus -- not through taxpayer-paid government employees.
“It's amazing that the Republicans can't even issue a press release on ethics without themselves potentially violating legislative ethics rules,” said Derek Roseman, communications director for DACC. “The Republicans' sole aim was to garner a cheap headline that would help fellow Republicans who are in real electoral trouble. Using a government staffer on state time as a political hatchetwoman is irresponsible and potentially unethical.”
Roseman said the Republicans' use of state workers to further their party's political aims throws into question the sincerity of the GOP's claims of ethical purity.
“The Assembly Republicans must think that ethics rules apply to everyone but them,” said Roseman. “But when it comes down it, this episode shows how lazy the Republicans have become. After all, the Republican State Committee is just across the street from the State House.”
