CODEY STATEMENT ON JOHN EDWARDS
WEST ORANGE – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today released the following statement on Senator John Edwards’ announcement that he will be ending his bid for the White House:
“As a lifelong public servant, John Edwards helped our nation focus again on who matters - the child without a home, those without jobs, the families who live in that other America that is not seen or talked about by many of our leaders in Washington.
"John Edwards’ primary bid was defined by substance, proposing bold and specific solutions to alleviating poverty, providing health care insurance for all Americans, combating global warming, and ending the war in Iraq.
"Our nation has been saddled with a legacy of failure created by seven years of George W. Bush, and John Edwards has been a leading voice in charting a new course for America.
“John Edwards has spent his entire life fighting injustices. He may no longer be in the running for the White House, but his legacy will endure and he will no doubt be an integral part of the public debate for years to come. I wish him and his family all the best.”
