COLLETTI SEEKS DEBATES WITH CONIGLIO 2007
Elmwood Park, NJ -- State Senate candidate Robert Colletti has asked Sen. Joseph Coniglio to participate in a series of debates, beginning immediately after Labor Day.
In a letter to Sen. Coniglio (D-38) delivered today, Colletti has asked for a series of five debates starting the week of September 24, on a range of topics from taxes to illegal immigration. Coniglio (D-38) who is under a federal investigation is apparently not dropping out of the race and Colletti says he wants to establish a debate format as quickly as possible.
“I have seen Sen. Coniglio on the campaign trail as recently as Saturday, so I assume he is committed to staying in the race and defending his record on raising taxes and protecting developers and illegal aliens” said Colletti. “If that’s the case, then we should be setting ground rules about debates.”
Colletti said he wants to debate not only the corruption problem in Trenton, which has ensnared Coniglio in a federal investigation, but he wants to debate the state’s horrific tax crisis, rampant illegal immigration and eminent domain.
“The campaign season is growing short and I want to make sure we have a debate schedule in place whether my opponent is Sen. Coniglio or a replacement candidate,” said Colletti a former Elmwood Park councilman.
Colletti said the Bergen County Democratic Party machine cannot get away with manipulating the senate election in District 38 by keeping Coniglio in the race until the very last minute.
“I am sure the Democrat strategists want to keep Sen. Coniglio in the race for as long as they can and then produce their substitute (rumored to be Paramus Mayor James Tedesco.)” said Colletti. “Then they will come up with some excuse about there not being enough time to debate. I will not accept that. That’s why I want a debate schedule now that will apply to Sen. Coniglio and to his successor,” said Colletti.

Dear Senator:
I was surprised to see you on Saturday campaigning in Saddle Brook. As you know, it was a horrifically hot day for campaigning, but soon the weather and the calendar will be changing and the countdown to Election Day will begin.
Before any more time elapses, I want to establish a debate schedule with you. I am suggesting a series of five debates starting during the week of September 24. I am sure we can get permission from local libraries, town halls and other public venues to host the debates.
I believe it is important to the voters to hear our views in a series of debates that will allow us to offer our views on a variety of important topics, including, political corruption, taxes, property rights, pension reform and illegal immigration.
I would appreciate it if you would have your campaign manager call my manager, Richard Miller as soon as possible at 201-819-9399 to discuss the a parameters of the debates.
Thank you
Respectfully
Robert Colletti
