MAGAZZU INSULTS CASINO WORKERSFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Larry Pepper
September 28, 2006 (856) 691-0100
VINELANDCumberland County Republican Freeholder candidate Michael Schenck said Monday that county Democrat Chair Louis Magazzu is insulting every hard working person in the county by inviting Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts to his fundraising dinner.
“Nearly twenty percent of the casino workforce in Atlantic City is from Cumberland County, said Schenck, “and Magazzu invites the man who shut down state government and cost all the casino workers a weeks pay. I challenge Mr. Magazzu to donate all the proceeds from his fundraiser to the hard working families who lost paychecks because his honored guest was arguing how much to raise all of our taxes.
The casinos were shut down for a week in July after an argument between Governor Jon Corzine and Roberts over how much to raise taxes. Since the state regulates gaming, the casinos were not open, laying off nearly 50,000 casino workers until the state reached a budget agreement.
“Mr. Magazzu is insulting every hardworking person in this county by his actions, said Schenck. “Roberts took food out of the mouths of people who live paycheck to paycheck, new clothes for school kids or perhaps even a family vacation, and Mr. Magazzu honors the person responsible.
“Mr. Magazzu has raised taxes at the county level and he fully supports those who have increased our taxes to record levels, said Schenck. “Cumberland County cannot afford Lou Magazzu.
