Sandra Bolden Cunningham won a Special Election Convention tonight to replace Joseph Doria in State Senate. Doria resigned to become Acting Commissioner of Community Affairs.
Cunningham will fill the remaining three months of Doria's term.
Doria, a former Assembly Speaker and the Mayor of Bayonne, went to the Senate in 2004 after the death of Cunningham's late husband. Cunningham won the 31st district Democratic State Senate primary last June after a hotly contested battle with Assemblyman Louis Manzo.
Cunningham will take her seat after the Senate reconvenes in November. Also waiting to take the oath of office are Assemblywomen-elect Mila Jasey and Elease Evans, who replaced Mims Hackett and Alfred Steele, respectively.

out of Hudson County. Not.
If she is as great as......
Her husband Glenn, she will be an endearing success. Glenn was the best in my book. Believe me - I heard all the drift before the election, but if she lives up to his class, charisma, concern and dedication - she'll do fine.
Please remind me why we care about this?
Another puppet from Hudson County. Doria will be missed.
If she is as great as......
Her husband Glenn, she'll be the worst disaster from Hudson County since her husband Glenn was Mayor. The only upside will be if this keeps her from running for Mayor. That would destroy Jersey City.
